3 Powerful Ways to Positively Stand Out in an Interview

Everyone has had some experience with a stressful job interview in their life. You want the job, but are too scared about what questions they’ll ask to focus on how to present yourself. Wouldn’t it be convenient if there was a way to know exactly what skills HR is looking for in interviews? Thankfully, Bigger Brains knows which skills will help you stand out in an interview!

1. Resilience and Adaptability

This past year has been hard on everyone. Every time it seemed like the craziness would stop, new problems and obstacles would arrive to add to the stress. Because of this, HR professionals are looking for candidates that will be able to adapt to change easily. With this characteristic comes emotional intelligence. Stress and emotions are both things that can become overwhelming. One feature that makes any candidate look good is being able to control their emotions.

Managing emotions is a major bonus for a candidate, but, being able to manage time is also important. Since offices have allowed employees to work from home, there may be a desire for employees to relax and not take their job as seriously. Showing you are a dedicated candidate that can manage tasks independently is a sure-fire way to stand out in an interview.

Stand out

Another way to show adaptability is by indicating that you are committed to upskilling your talents indicates that you are constantly looking to expand your knowledge. Find ways to talk about new courses, new training, new experiences you have had.  This can include training from an older position or, if you have been unemployed, the initiative you took to create new skills or improve older ones.

2. Technology Skills/ Digital Fluency

Put that past upskilling and training on the front burner – talk about the technology and software you are comfortable with and how you learned to use it. Showing that you are willing to learn how to use new technology when it roles out is an effective way to keep you relevant as a candidate.

3. Communication Across Remote or Distributed Teams

In a combination of adapting to change and being digitally fluent, the last tip to stand out in an interview is to stand out while working with a team. Due to Covid, most team projects were completed online, because of that, people found new ways to engage with their team. One of the best ways to attract attention during an interview is to explain that despite the possibility of meeting remotely, you are still able to show leadership qualities with your team.

Overall, knowing how to sell yourself and your qualifications is what will help you stand out in an interview process. Hopefully, these tips and tricks will help ease your stress and allow you to think clearly about the interview process.
