In our monthly blog segment “What’s Brewing at Bigger Brains,” I am happy to introduce members of the Bigger Brains team of experts (and the coffees that they bring to the Teams meeting table). Today let’s meet Chip Reaves!
What’s your role at Bigger Brains?
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
Finding ways to be more innovative and effective in how we help people learn new skills, and receiving positive reviews from customers who love our courses!
What does it mean to you to be a leader?
Taking responsibility for all aspects under my control, from business development to employee motivation to course production.
What are your biggest professional challenges?
Balancing all the things we could and should be doing with the realities of our available resources.
What is something that you would you love to learn someday?
Languages! I’ve always wanted to be fluent in other languages, but have never made the time to learn much. Especially as we’ve started dubbing more Bigger Brains courses, I’d love to understand what they’re saying!
What do you like to do outside of work?
I’m active with my church and a couple of charity organizations, including Rebuild Upstate here in South Carolina where I’m currently serving as board chair. We help people who live in unsafe, unhealthy houses and who aren’t able to afford the needed repairs themselves, so we fix a lot of floors and roofs and build a lot of accessibility ramps.
Where’s somewhere you’d love to travel?
I’m hoping to go back to Rwanda next year, I’m involved with some charity work in east Africa and we’re hoping it’s safer to travel next year so we can check on some projects.
What is your motto or personal mantra?
All you can do is all you can do!
