What’s Brewing at Bigger Brains? A Hot Café Mocha!

In our monthly blog segment “What’s Brewing at Bigger Brains,” I’m happy to introduce members of the Bigger Brains team of experts (and the coffees that they bring to the Teams meeting table). Today let’s meet Destiny Macon!

Destiny Macon Content Creator Bigger Brains

What’s your role at Bigger Brains?

In the past three years of me working for Bigger Brains,  I’ve been a scriptwriter,  video editor, producer, and casting director. With all of the titles I’ve held, I go ahead and use the umbrella title; “content creator”.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I like being able to tap into my creative side and relay information in new and inventive ways. I also like the freedom I’m given at Bigger Brains to employ my own voice while still keeping in line with the company’s vision.

What are your biggest professional challenges?

Juggling all of the many hats that I have to wear throughout the day. I have two small children who need my attention, a husband who also needs my attention, and a burgeoning career. So I often lose big chunks of time throughout the day to my mind trying to process a million things at once. The fact that I have an overactive imagination can also be a blessing, but sometimes a curse.

Bigger Brains Outside of Work All Members

What do you like to do outside of work?

This is going to sound so basic, but it’s true. I love to spend time with my family and friends and I love to travel. The not-so-typical side of what I like to do outside of work is that I like to make short films. Actually, I LOVE to make short films. It’s extremely difficult and sometimes emotionally taxing, but it’s so addictive. I mentioned that I have an overactive imagination and so what I love about filmmaking is being able to show other people the madness that’s going on inside of my head.

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

I have so many to list. Bringing two extremely adorable humans into the world is my top achievement. But my most recent and exciting achievement was winning the 2020 Indiegrants award for $35K to fund my short film, Talk Black. This film is a quirky comedic fantasy based on some of my experiences working as a black female civil engineer working in a male-dominated field. (This was in my previous life before I dove hardcore into filmmaking).

Where’s somewhere you’d love to travel?

I have always wanted to go to Brazil. I plan to visit the country on my 30th birthday.

What’s your favorite line from a film?

“Out of all these girls, you’re the only one I know that’s for real” – Love & Basketball

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

I would choose Issa Rae because she built a successful youtube web series from nothing and has taken that to create an award-winning television show with HBO.
