In our monthly blog segment “What’s Brewing at Bigger Brains,” I am happy to introduce members of the Bigger Brains team of experts (and the coffees that they bring to the Teams meeting table). Today let’s meet Kathy Jones!
What’s your role at Bigger Brains?
I’m the content manager. That means I work with our great team of teachers to develop new courses, I supervise the filming, and my teams writes the supplemental materials like handouts and knowledge checks that accompany each course. I also oversee our production team and do the quality reviews before we release a course.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
I like the variety. By getting to work with teachers who have so many areas of expertise, I’ve learned a lot from them. I also love working with our content and production teams to get a course from inception to a finished product.
What does it mean to you to be a leader?
Serving others, and inspiring them to grow and develop their own unique skills and abilities.
What are your biggest professional challenges?
Keeping up with current content and trends. Since things are always changing in both in our personal and business environments, I want to teach and create courses that are relevant and useful to our customers. Coming up with new and creative ways to present content is always a challenge!
What is something that you would love to learn someday?
How to skydive. I’m pretty sure I’d actually jump out of the plane…. Also I’ve also always wanted to get a pilot’s license.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I volunteer a lot through the Red Cross, other nonprofits, and my church. I spend time with our teen girls group at church and enjoy teaching them and doing projects together. Also, I have gotten into biking the last few years, so I try to get out on my bike several times a week.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
After I realized I probably wasn’t going to be an astronaut, the only other thing I ever wanted to do was be a teacher. I’m living my dream!
Where’s somewhere you’d love to travel?
I was planning on going to Sweden to visit family when the pandemic hit, so that’s still on my itinerary for the near future, but I don’t want to go in the winter! I’d love to stop in Iceland on that trip if I can.
